STARTING A SHED
Men’s Shed Activities
- Assemble and stain a picnic bench for use at the city facilities for municipal workers.
- Adopt local Parks and walk through them once or twice a month to pick up trash and branches.
- Remove underbrush from pine trees at local Parks.
- Get a presentation on tax law changes by an AARP or other volunteer tax preparer.
- Plant flowers, move plants & put down new mulch at local non-profit.
- Trim local non-profit organization’s trees
- Adjust or re-install blinds in Sponsors facility.
- Set up and man Men’s Shed display at a Seniors day event.
- Hold a dinner with all members and significant others.
- Fix simple appliances for local residents.
- Set up and work at a Men’s Shed or Sponsors booth at a local city festival.
- Paint letters on local community laser cut wood sign.
- Do maintenance or repairs at a local Historical Society.
- Help to set up and take down tables and chairs for a Senior Health Fair or other similar event.
- Set up and Man a Men’s Shed display at the senior Health Fair.
- Drain and roll up hoses for winter storage.
- Break down, flatten, & bundle empty cardboard boxes for recycling.
- Collect, Bag, count and transport Christmas tree items to local charities.
- Repair folding tables and chairs that get broken.
- Work on outdoor games for local events and celebrations.
- Set up chairs and tables for a local Police Department bingo fundraiser.
- Create large kids’ games for for city park or charitable outdoor events.
- Power wash a wood fence or cement area.
- Stain community wood fences.
- Help setup tables and chairs for Sponsor’s parties and events.
- Sand, scrape and paint walls in a local charity.
- Deliver food to a non-profit food shelf.
- Paint walls in a storage room.
- Create a cart to store and move roadway safety cones.
- Refurbish hall display cases.
- Have a local expert User to explain different things Members can do on their smart phones.
- Repair shelving units.
- Assemble Ikea furniture or shelving for your Sponsor or other local charity.
- Buy and assemble new popcorn machine.
- Volunteer to setup and help with the games at local events.
- Stain wood fence sections at public works buildings.
- Tour a local Public Works or a City water treatment plant.
- Assemble temporary no parking signs for the local Police Department.
- Volunteer at Feed My Starving Children or other related organizations.
- Tour a Federal Reserve Bank.
- Met with three members of AARP to review what we are doing.
- Bring in your local Mayor or other city officials to speak to Men’s Shed members.
- Bring in family members or friend of Men’s Shed members to tell their stories.
- Help Cub Scouts make their cars for the annual Pine Wood Derby at your local Cub Scout Pack.
- Attend a talk on the Apollo space program.
- Tour a County Energy Recovery Center.
- Tour your local Historical Society.
- Tour your local Police Department.
- Tour your local area National Weather Center.
- Tour a local Community Recycling Facility.
- Attend stained glass or other types of Members personal hobby demonstrations.
- Tour your local Watershed District facility.
- Play miniature golf at a local putt-putt golf course.
- Tour your State Capitol.
- Made a presentation to your local City Council for their support.
- Tour a local brewery or other local businesses of interest.
- Tour a local manufacturing business.
- Tour a local Aviation Museum or visit a local airport.
- Make a presentation to local Lions, Boy Scouts, VFW, American Legion or Rotary groups.
- Tour a local dementia and Alzheimer’s day care facility or senior residence.
- Hold a local Men’s Shed anniversary with Spouses and significant others.
- Tour a local auto service or autobody business.
- Repair a piece of furniture for some local non-profit.
- Participate in a Family Service Fair.
- Help a fellow Men’s Shed member prepare for a garage sale.
- Do Alzheimer’s Volunteer Work
- Volunteer time at local non-profits to do other simple electric or maintenance repairs.
- Do faucet repairs or other simple plumbing fixes at community facilities
- Do site visits to local stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, hardware stores and others.
- Do local community maintenance work or snow removal.
